"The Dark Traveler: When Unexpected Guests Become Part of Your Journey in the Darkness of Night"
Episode 1 — The Dark Traveler
By Dr. Imran Anjum
Today, it had become a little darker while working in the fields.
The wheat sowing was complete, so I sent the rest of the people home before it got dark. I started doing some small chores myself.
When I looked up, darkness had spread all around.
There was a strange coolness in the air.
I wrapped my cloak tightly, threw it over my shoulder and headed towards the tractor.
A few moments later, I was traveling on the deserted road leading to my village.
My village was about three to four kilometers away.
The road was deserted…
Complete darkness all around…
And the road was surrounded by the headlights of the tractor.
The silence was so deep that the sound of the tractor was felt twice as much, as if someone else was also walking along.
I just Barely a kilometer had passed when suddenly a black dog-like shadow passed in front of the tractor like lightning.
So fast that I didn’t have a chance to understand what it was.
My heart stopped beating for a moment.
I controlled myself and continued my journey.
A few moments later, my heart rang the alarm again.
I felt as if the same thing had once again gone from right to left.
Now I became cautious.
Pigs and jackals were common in our area.
I took out a pistol from my holster (sling) and held it in front of me.
As soon as my gaze shifted from the pistol to the road,
my hands automatically went to the brakes.
In front…
in the middle of the road…
a woman was walking with her two children.
A thrill ran through my body.
I wondered for a few moments where these people had suddenly come from?
Perhaps I had not been able to see in the darkness at first.
They The three were walking with their backs to me.
I slowly moved the tractor forward, but they did not move to the side.
I honked.
No response.
I honked again.
Not even then.
Strange thoughts began to arise in my mind.
I had passed this road many times before… but this had never happened.
When I honked for the third time, they suddenly pulled over to the side of the road.
I immediately increased my speed and overtook them.
I did not dare to look back.
Holding the pistol tightly in one hand,
I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and started moving towards the village in first gear.
A few steps away was the camp of a friend of ours.
He was a little off the road, and only one of his servants lived there.
I stopped on the road and honked, so that I could warn him.
Despite honking three or four times, no one came out.
A strange uneasiness took possession of my heart.
I drove the tractor forward.
A few moments later, I felt…
as if someone was sitting behind me.
In the back seat…
Right behind me.
I ignored it, thinking it was just an illusion.
But then…
My blood tried to freeze.
A voice echoed from behind—
Masculine… but childish:
"Madam… How much time is left? When will we arrive?"
My hands started to tremble.
Then another voice—
also masculine, but childish:
"Madam… Can't this man feel us?"
My hand automatically tightened on the pistol.
Before I could turn back,
a very beautiful, calm feminine voice emerged:
"Child… keep your voice low.
This man is feeling fear.
If he gets scared, our path will be difficult.
I am sure, this man can take us to our destination.
We have to go to the well of the school cemetery…
If your father hadn’t taken away our strength, we would have arrived by now.”
That voice…
was such that I got lost in it.
My fear began to strangely subside.
I was longing to hear that voice again.
But now there was complete silence behind me.
I could feel them…
The intensity of the cold had diminished in their presence.
Far away…
the lights of my village began to appear.
There was a turn near the village.
My village on the right…
and on the left was the same old road that led to the school cemetery.
Suddenly…
My tractor automatically turned left.
I didn’t resist.
Now our journey was towards the cemetery.
There was an old school,
and a closed well,
which had been closed from above years ago.
The cemetery was not far away now.
The same female voice came from behind:
“Child… We are about to arrive.
Thank this man, who gave us a safe passage."
A child's voice came:
"Ma'am Sai... we should include him in our invitation too.
He saved us from our enemies."
My heart beat faster again.
We had reached the front of the old school.
The tractor's light was reaching far.
A voice came from behind:
"Ma'am Sai... look, Nana Huzoor... is waiting for us."
The female voice immediately said:
"Be quiet... this man is feeling us.
Don't faint out of fear..."
And
At that moment...
Suddenly the tractor's lights went off.
