The story of the angels' test - Barut and Marut
It is said that there was a time when sins were common on earth.
Humans were oppressing, drinking alcohol, and deceiving, and the angels of heaven were surprised to see the evil of humans.
They said, "O Allah! These humans are filling your earth with sins. Why are they not punished?"
Allah Almighty said, "If you are sent to earth, will you not sin?"
The angels replied, "We are your worshipers." "We will never sin."
Allah Almighty said, "Well, then two angels from among you will be sent to earth."
See how they act in the guise of humans. So, the two angels, Harut and Marut,
were sent to earth as teachers.
They were given knowledge, intellect, and authority.
They taught people justice, worship, and righteousness. The whole city was impressed by their goodness and knowledge.
But one day
A beautiful woman came to them
whose name is mentioned in some narrations as Zahra.
She was impressed by their wisdom and said, "I will obey you, but on one condition, you must do what I tell you."
The angels asked, "Which?" The woman said, "Drink wine, shed the blood of an innocent person, or sin against me."
The angels hesitated.
All three sins were great, but they thought
Drinking wine might be a lesser sin.
They drank wine
and the wine took away their intelligence.
Then they did everything they should not have done.
When they came to their senses, the earth shook.
A voice came from the sky: "O Barut and Marut, you have done what you used to taunt people with."
Allah Almighty said to them
"You have sinned."
Now you are given two choices: either taste the punishment in this world or in the Hereafter."
They said, "O Allah!" We will bear the punishment in this world "Save us from the punishment of the Hereafter.
Allah Almighty accepted their prayer but they were hung upside down in a blind well under the earth where they will remain in punishment until the Day of Judgment.
It is said
Whoever passes by this well in the last watch of the night, sometimes he hears the cries of angels.
This was the story of those angels who were foremost in knowledge and worship, but arrogance and the pride of trial deprived them of Paradise.
Lesson: Never be arrogant about yourself because Satan was also a worshiper and the angels were also good, but a moment of arrogance throws one from the Throne of Allah to the well of the earth. Surah Al-Baqarah - Verse No. 102 (Urdu Translation)
And they followed what Satan used to recite during the reign of Solomon, although Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils did disbelieve, they used to teach people magic, and they also taught that which the two angels Harut taught in Babylon. And it was sent down upon Marut. And they did not teach anyone anything until they said: "We are only a trial, so do not disbelieve." Then people would learn from them that by which they would cause separation between a man and his wife, although they could not harm anyone except by Allah's permission.
